I studied mesoamerican archaeology at the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH-INAH) in Mexico City. It was an extraordinary theoretical and practical education based on historical materialism, Latin American social anthropology and thematic interpretation. During the following four years I worked as a research assistant at the Instituto de Investigaciones Antropológicas (UNAM) where I carried out archaeological field work, specializing in geophysical prospecting, across the central highlands of Mexico.
