Rose III by Isa Genzken

In her large-scale public sculptures, renowned German artist Isa Genzken explores the relationship between architecture, nature and popular culture.

Rose III is an eight-metre-high sculpture of a single long-stemmed rose in cast aluminum and galvanized steel, placed inside the atrium of M7. It is based on an actual rose picked by the artist, which was then scanned in 3D and reproduced on a monumental scale.

Tome Eccles, curator of public art for Qatar Museums, provides his insight on the meaning and significance of this striking artwork.

Genzken produced her first Rose sculpture in the early nineties, and it has since become one of the artist’s best-known works.
